As the actual news of the world gets weirder, sometimes it's a good idea to look back and try to understand the past as a way of dealing with the future (that's super-profound, huh?) So I just finished "The Great Believers" by Rebecca Makkai, and it was fantastic. It takes place in Chicago and Paris in the late 80's and the late 2010's. It's about AIDS, and art, and families. And it's so, so good. (And Amy Poehler bought the rights to make it into a TV series.)
