Anyone else having trouble focusing?

The kids are home, I'm teaching from home, blah, blah, blah... I'm kind of a structure girl and I'm having trouble with all the different parts of life blending together. So, I'm super-procrastinatey, and super-scattered. Not a great combo. Also, WAY TOO much news is constantly happening and I feel compelled to follow it, which just makes me less focused. In the amount of time I've spent doomscrolling on Twitter and researching radical fringe groups, I could have written a novel and a sequel. Ugh.

So, here's what I've been reading...

  • The Vanishing Half - Brit Bennett - I'm fascinated by twins, and this was an interesting story about mothers, sisters, race, and identity. I think because this book was on so many recommended lists I had really high expectations. I probably would have liked it more if I hadn't paid attention to all the hype.

  • The Austen Playbook - Lucy Parker - I'll always read Lucy Parker. It's a contemporary romance about actors and actresses and families and England.

  • Beach Read - Emily Henry - Writers, romance and the beach. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I wanted to. Blame it on 2020.

  • Big Summer - Jennifer Weiner...is reliable. Big Summer is sexy and funny and mysterious.

  • Still Lives - Maria Hummel

  • The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides

  • Take Me Apart - Sara Sligar - Would you like to read about the seedy underbelly of the art world, women artists, mental illness, murder, feminism (kind of)? Take your pick - all three of these books cover all of these things. I guess I liked Still Lives the best.

Oh, hey, if you haven't yet - GO VOTE!!!!
